Our latest article is a bit of a different one. We’re excited to welcome our new Friend of Synchtank, RoEx!
At Synchtank, we’re all about teaming up with companies that bring real value to our customers and are making a positive impact in the music industry. RoEx fits that bill perfectly.
So, as always, we sat down for a chat, this time with RoEx CEO David Ronan, to get the inside scoop on who RoEx are, what they do, and why they’ve decided to join forces with us.
For those who may not know RoEx yet, can you give us a snapshot of who you are and what you do?
RoEx is a music technology company focused on making professional-grade audio more accessible to music creators, regardless of their technical expertise. RoEx spun out of Queen Mary University of London, where I completed a PhD in intelligent audio production.
Our intelligent audio tools for consumers include Automix, which enables musicians to produce high-quality mixes from multitrack recordings in minutes; and Mix Check Studio, which analyses tracks and gives actionable feedback on how to improve your mix or master.
The full range of RoEx’s intelligent audio tools are available for integration into commercial music apps and services. These include automated multitrack mixing, mastering, audio enhancement/restoration, audio QC/QA, clean up and more.

We’re building the next generation of assistive AI tools for music production – designed to support everyone from emerging artists to seasoned professionals.
What inspired the creation of RoEx, and what gap in the industry were you aiming to fill?
RoEx was born out of a simple insight: musicians are passionate about their craft and have the creativity and drive to make great music. But they often struggle with the technical barriers of producing a polished, release-ready sound.
The idea for this all started when I was studying for my Master’s degree and learning how to mix and master. I remember the first time I opened a DAW – I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of buttons and options. “What’s MIDI?” “How do I use a compressor?”. I realised that to excel, you need to invest time in learning. Mixing and mastering can be time-consuming and intimidating, and require a whole new skillset beyond the traditional skills required to be a musician.
We saw a clear gap between the tools that were available to professionals and the wider community of musicians and producers. RoEx was created to fill that gap by delivering intuitive, AI-powered tools that make audio expertise accessible to more musicians and creators. We want to help musicians sound their best by removing barriers around creating professional grade audio that resonates with audiences.
What kinds of challenges do you help your customers overcome/are you noticing any trends?
Our tools assist musicians and producers in two key ways – through our consumer-facing products (Automix and Mix Check Studio) and through integrations with services of leading music companies like UnitedMasters and Music AI. Many of these music makers know their tracks could sound better, but lack the time or technical know-how to get them there. Our tools help remove that friction.
Automix customers are using our mixing services at different stages of their productions – whether to help polish a work-in-progress demo track to share with peers and collaborators, or our full mixing and mastering workflow, to get their track release-ready.
One area of feedback we’ve taken on since launching Automix is that some musicians like the results, but want to tailor certain aspects of their final mix. To help address this, we’ve integrated Automix with DAWs like Ableton Live and Bitwig Studio.
This means we can give music creators all of their bespoke mix settings (like compression, EQ) as a project file, so they can experiment and tweak our suggested approach. This way, they’re part of the process and maintain some creative control.
One trend we are especially excited about is the use of AI-powered tools by music companies to revisit, improve, and reimagine their back catalogues.
One trend we are especially excited about is the use of AI-powered tools by music companies to revisit, improve, and reimagine their back catalogues. The rise of streaming, non-linear listening habits, and high-impact sync opportunities has put renewed focus on older releases.
Musicians and rightsholders often told us they wanted to breathe new life into older tracks – but without access to multitrack audio or stems, that was nearly impossible.
So we reimagined Mix Check Studio and introduced Mix Enhance: a powerful feature that detects issues in existing mixes and masters, then intelligently corrects them. It enables the restoration and enhancement of archive recordings, even when the original sessions are long gone.
By separating stereo audio into individual elements, applying a refined processing chain, and seamlessly reassembling the track, Mix Enhance makes professional-grade improvements achievable with just a stereo file.
It’s powered by intelligent audio tools that simply didn’t exist until recently.
We’re big fans of your work at Synchtank. What excites you most about building relationships with platforms like ours?
Thank you! We really appreciate the work that Synchtank is doing for rights management and sync innovation across the industry.
It’s exciting to be able to bring the power of our tools to Synchtank’s clients. Through our partnership, we see clear potential for clients to restore and enhance catalogue material using Mix Check Studio. And with Automix, clients can speed up the mixing process to easily create the versions they need to unlock more sync opportunities – whether that’s instrumentals, alternate mixes, or adjusting the presence of specific elements in a track.
We are looking forward to working with Synchtank to help RoEx artists and enterprise clients breathe new life into their catalogue
We are looking forward to working with Synchtank to help RoEx artists and enterprise clients breathe new life into their catalogues – unlocking new opportunities for sync and discovery that allow their music to be showcased, monetised, and repurposed in new and meaningful ways.
What’s next for RoEx? Any big goals or upcoming developments you’re particularly excited about?
We are continuing to develop and refine our assistive audio production tools, Automix and Mix Check Studio, with a near-term focus on expanding their capabilities – opening up 32-track mixing on Automix is just one example of this. Beyond that, we are increasing processing speed and making our experiences even more intuitive, while still delivering the same professional-grade results.
Outside of this, we are enabling deeper integrations of RoEx tools into partner platforms – allowing mixing, mastering, audio analysis and audio clean up to be built directly into more music industry products. Several launches using these capabilities are on the horizon, and we are excited to see them go live.
Looking further ahead, we see strong potential for our technology within content creation, TV, and film. We have already taken steps into these spaces and are continuing to build out our tools to support post-production workflows.
Strategic partnerships, such as our collaboration with Synchtank, play an important role in helping us realise this broader vision.
